Effects

Similarly a magical effect falls within one of four effect types. These modify how difficult the spell is to cast and the bid damage. The four effect types from least difficult to most difficult are:

  • Sense – Get information from a target
  • Send – Send information to a target
  • Diminish – Take an attribute on a target and worsen it
  • Enhance – Take an attribute on a target and strengthen it
  • Control – Alter the target in any other way

A spell’s effect can be distilled down to a ‘Consequence’ damage that influences how hard the spell is to cast and defend against. Usually the consequence damage is how much damage the spell can do to 1 person. Consequence Damage for spells that don’t explicitly do damage are not inherently obvious, so these rules are used:

  • Sense
    • 2: Apparent
    • 4: Non-Apparent
    • 6: Purposefully Hidden
    • 8+:Magically Hidden, or Repressed
  • Send
    • 2: Resonant
    • 4: Novel
    • 6: Dissonant
    • 8+:Magically Hidden, or Repressed

Creating Spells

There are 3 charts that are used to determine the difficulty class of a spell, Core, Basic, and Advanced. The Core chart is used to determine the consequence damage and the bid damage. The Basic chart and Advanced chart give modifiers to how difficult the spell is to cast and defend against.

The Basic chart defines how you want to cast the spell. For each column choose the appropriate row and add the modifiers up. If permitted by the GM you may also use the Advanced chart in a similar fashion.

  • Subtle – Spell provides a relatively weak effect or spell effect is for flavor only
  • Out-of-Combat – The spell provides an effect of normal strength, but has no consequences in combat.
  • Implicit – The end goal of the spell is different from the spell effect (The fire burns him)
  • Explicit – The end goal of the spell is the spell effect (He becomes burned)
